Maria Samagaio

Maria Samagaio, age 92 years, died peacefully at New Bedford Health Care Center on Friday, January 4. She was the beloved widow of Domingos Samagaio Sr. who passed away July, 7 2012. Mrs. Samagaio was the loving mother of 2 sons: Domingos Samagaio Jr, husband of Helen, of Freetown and Paul Samagaio, husband of Rita, of New Bedford. Maria is survived by 1 sister: Francisca Soares of New Bedford; and is predeceased by several brothers. Maria has 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Samagaio was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal; daughter of the late Maria Livramento and the late Jose Goncalves Correia. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress at local dress factories. Maria was a devoted matriarch to her family. She will be deeply missed by those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Maria’s funeral will be Tuesday, January 8 from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
