Maria P. Correia

New Bedford – Maria P. Correia, age 86, died on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved widow of Jose Francisco Correia. Maria was born in Pico, Açores, a daughter of Libania (Machado) and Elias Pires. She immigrated to this country in 1960 and worked as a Seamstress at Elco Dress Manufacturing until her retirement. Mrs. Correia enjoyed playing bingo with her many friends at Bishop Stang.
Her surviving family includes her 5 children: Maria Bernadette Correia and Connie Cardoso, both of New Bedford, James Correia of Rochester, Maria Fatima Harville of Florida and Maria Lourdes Correia of Belmont, Ma; 2 siblings: Evarista Silva of New Bedford and Jose Teofilo Pires of Montreal, Canada; as well as 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by 2 children: Maria Teresinha Fialho and Jose Francisco Correia, Jr; and 3 siblings.
Maria’s funeral will be Friday beginning at 9:30 A.M. at PERRY FUNERAL HOME, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening in the funeral home from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
