New Bedford – Manuel P. Furtado, age 80, of South Dartmouth, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Maria de Fatima (Amaral) Furtado and they had been married for 53 years.

Manuel was born in Feteira Pequena, Nordeste, St. Michael, Azores to the late Manuel Furtado Silva Jr. and Alexandrina Nogueira Pimentel. He moved to this area in 1966 where he had worked in the textile and construction industry and later became the Owner of Azores Fish Market in New Bedford.

Manuel loved to spend time in his garden and especially loved his time spent with his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife, Maria; 2 children, Emanuel Furtado and his wife Dorvalina and Maria De Medeiros and her husband Timothy De Medeiros; 4 granddaughters, Kristen, Victoria, Brianna and Kaitlyn; brother, Jose Furtado and his wife Maria, sister, Margarida Valério and her husband Angelo; as well as several nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was also the brother of the late Maria dos Anjos Aguiar and her late husband, Manuel as well as the late Zacarias Furtado.

Manuel’s visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening, June 19th from 5:00– 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will take place on Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
