Acushnet – Anthony F. Alferes, age 88, of South Dartmouth passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020 at his son’s home in Acushnet surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Fairhaven, MA he was the beloved son of the late Enos Alferes and Mary (Freitas) Alferes.
Mr. Alferes served United States Army during the Korean War as a Vehicle Tank Transporter and Vehicle Mechanic. He later went on to work as a Mechanic for Auld Chevrolet until opening his own business “Alferes Garage” and later “G&E Automotive” until his retirement in 1995.
Anthony was an innovator when it came to cars and racing them. He enjoyed helping others who had the same interest. He was a man of few words with a big heart, who was loved and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Eleanor (Medeiros) Alferes; his son, Glen Alferes and his wife Rebecca; two granddaughters, Caitlin Avilla and Danielle DeCosta and her husband Logan; three great-grandchildren, Emily Avilla and Henley and Bennett DeCosta. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister, Mary Garrett and three brothers John, Joseph and Robert.
