Agostinho D. Gonsalves

New Bedford – Agostinho (Gus) Gonsalves, age 94, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Elsie Gonsalves, whom he had been married to for 73 wonderful years.

Born in Porto de Oliveira, Portugal he was the son of the late Antonio and Cezaltina Da Graca Martins Gonsalves. In his early years, Gus had enlisted in the U.S. Army. He later went on to work at Berkshire Hathaway for many years until it’s closing. He had worked in construction and built several houses before retiring. After his retirement, he had worked for Home Depot for 25 years up until the age of 90 when he became ill.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie; several nieces and nephews; a sister, Dina Gonsalves; two sisters-in-law and many cousins. He was also the brother of the late Fernando Gonsalves and Antonio Gonsalves.

Special thanks to nieces, Suzanne Gonsalves and Marissa Hart for the time they shared at his passing. Another special thank you to the staff at Brandon Woods Dartmouth for their care over the past year of his life.

Gus’s visiting hours will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, in the funeral home, beginning at 10:30 A.M. and followed with a funeral service to take place at 11:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery.

All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home.Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this time.
