Fairhaven – Henry J. Sylvia, age 90, of Fairhaven, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary “Connie” (Roderiques) Sylvia. Henry was born in New Bedford, MA and he was the son of John G. and Cleodina (Therien) Sylvia.
Henry had been a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1948. He served in the Naval Reserves for 41 years as a Chief Petty Officer, serving active duty during the “Cuban Crisis” aboard the Destroyer Escort USS Parle DE 708. Henry was a retired steamfitter with Local 51 of Providence, R.I. and Local 644 and 77 of New Bedford, MA.
His survivors include his son, Ronald J. Sylvia and his loved wife Brenda Marie Sylvia of Fairhaven; two granddaughters, Karen Lea Bergeron and her husband Jason of Acushnet and Bethanie Marie Grant of Marion; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Theodore Grant and Natalie and Mackenzie Bergeron; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Roger G. Sylvia.
Henry’s visiting hours will be held on Friday evening, November 6, 2020 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will be held Saturday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:15 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in Fairhaven at 9:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in River-Side Cemetery in Fairhaven.
All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home. Attendance in church will also be limited to meet capacity restrictions. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this time.
