New Bedford – William J. “Bill” Perry, age 76, of New Bedford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Jeannine D. (Dufresne) Perry, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage.

He was born on December 5, 1944, in New Bedford, MA to the late Thomas H. Perry and Wanda (Bergquist) Perry. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, and went on to attend Cape Cod Community College and the New England School of Applied Arts & Sciences.

Bill was one of the 3 original co-founders of Perry Funeral Home. He retired in May 2017, after 50 years of service as a funeral director. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and dedication in servicing families throughout the years.

He was a family man who treasured and loved his family greatly. Especially the time spent with his children, and being the proud Papa of his grandsons, Kade and Vaughn. He will now be reunited with his beloved dog, Tyler, who was a treasured member of the family. He was also an avid sports fan. His favorite team was the New York Yankees, followed by the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, and Boston Celtics.

Survivors include his loving wife, Jeannine D. Perry; his children, Lisa D. Perry, Lori A. Gata and her husband Jeremy, and Tim E. Perry; his grandsons, Kade M. Kaminski and Vaughn K. Gata; his brother, Thomas H. Perry and his wife Jane; his niece, Sandra J. Manning and her husband Richard, his nephew, Thomas H. Perry and his wife Joselyn, and several great-nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday evening, January 10, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will take place on Monday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can kindly be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home. Attendance in church and at the cemetery will also be limited to meet capacity restrictions. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this time.
