Joseph T. Frates

New Bedford – Joseph T. Frates, age 51, of New Bedford, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Many knew him as Smiling Joe, whenever you saw him he was smiling.

Born in New Bedford, MA and grew up in Acushnet. He was the son of Geraldine (DeMello) Frates and the late William “Bill” Frates. Joseph had worked as a Licensed electrician for many years, starting out in the family business, Joey was a member of IBEW Local 223 and the IBF. Joey loved music, playing his guitar, mandolin, piano, poetry and writing music. He also loved riding his Harley, fishing and playing music with his friends. He will definitely be remembered for his smile, wit, humor and kindness and will be truly missed by his family, friends and all he considered brothers. Rest easy Joey and fly high.

Joseph is survived by his mom, Geraldine; his siblings, Bill, Leslie, Francis, Lisa, Lynne and Maryanne; niece and nephews, Jamie, David, Olivia, Derek and Lauren, great nieces and nephews, Jyzair, Mikyle, Reignon, Colin and Travis.

Joseph’s funeral services with cremains will be held on Saturday August 14, 11:00 A.M at St Marys Church in Dartmouth. Everyone is asked to meet directly at Church. Burial is Omitted.
