Alice B. Delacy

d. July 24, 2021

New Bedford – Alice Brandao deLacy, age 95, beloved wife of the late Herbert Thomas deLacy, and sister of the late Idylia Brandao Johansen, passed away on July 24, 2021 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home in New Bedford after a brief illness. Alice was the daughter of Agostinho and Idylia Olivieria Brandao Costa.

Alice was sociable. She loved to gather with friends and enjoyed being around people. Alice’s passion for shopping and fashion made her a natural fit for her many years of work in the lady’s department at the New Bedford Star Store. Alice also worked for the Cornell Dubilier, where she met her husband of 31 years Herbert “Bert”. They were a devoted couple until his passing in 1984. Alice and Bert loved to dance. Although they did not have children of their own, they were mutually very close with their nieces and nephews. Bert is buried as a World War II Veteran in the Rural Cemetery in New Bedford.

Alice will be remembered for her upbeat, sunny, cheerful disposition, her humor and her glass-half-full attitude toward life, which made her so pleasant to be with.

Alice is survived by cousins, including Edna Sylvia, many friends, and particularly by her husband’s nieces and nephews including Joyce deLacy Calnen, Earl deLacy, Lynn deLacy Flanagan, Donna Portway Bowditch, David Portway, Carol Portway MacLeod, Coreen Portway Cirone, Gary Portway, Gail Portway Carter, along with their respective spouses and families. She was also predeceased by the late Rick deLacy.

A private interment will be held by the family at Rural Cemetery at a future date.

Arrangements are placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, MA 02740. Please see our website: www.perryfuneral.com for condolences.
