Jose A. Fagundes

New Bedford – Jose A. Fagundes, age 81, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Maria Ines (DaSilva) Fagundes.

He was born in Faial, Azores to the late Jose Fagundes and Ana Amelia (Oliveira) Fagundes. Jose had served in the Portuguese Army, where he drove the jeeps for the officer’s aide. Once he moved to this country, he had worked for Concordia building sailboats. He later went on to work in the Maintenance Department for the City of New Bedford School Department for many years. He had also been a big fan of Benfica Soccer.

Jose is survived by his wife, Maria Fagundes; his son, Daniel Jose Fagundes; his daughter, Stacy Maria Fagundes; brother, Mario Fagundes; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his late brother Carlos Manuel Fagundes.

In lieu of flowers, donations can kindly be made in Jose’s name to the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.

Jose’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021. His visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. and followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be private.
