Dartmouth – James Severino, age 97, of Dartmouth, passed away on Monday September 13, 2021 peacefully at Brandon Woods. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Severino.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Ernesto and Caroline Rapoza Severino, he was a life long resident of Southeastern MA. James served honorably and proudly in World War II with the US Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Wasp (CV-18). He was part of the inaugural crew which brought the vessel thru sea trials in the Caribbean then departed to the pacific for active duty. He absolutely adored his grandchildren; he never missed a practice or game, he was a regular at the Hockey Rink and Lacrosse field cheering them on. He was a life-long fan of Boston Sports and could be found any summer night watching his beloved Red Sox.

After returning from service James could be found for many years in the South-end of New Bedford early in the morning serving the community as a milkman. He then changed careers and began a 40+years in the furniture industry at US Furniture.

James is survived by his son, Michael Severino and his wife Laura Severino; his beloved grandsons Cameron & Connor Severino; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Mary, brother Ernest Severino, Jr., sisters Lillian Eberstein and Natalie Gouveia.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Brandon Woods nursing home and MA Hospice organization.
