Irene (Souza) Cabral

New Bedford – Irene (Souza) Cabral, 92 of Dartmouth, passed away on September 29, 2021 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home while under hospice care. She was the wife of the late Joseph Cabral. Born in Dartmouth, MA the daughter of Ernesto and Hortencia (Rodrigues) Souza, she lived most of her years in Dartmouth caring for her family.

Irene always had an unconditional love for all things and family was her focus. She was a humble and fierce spirit who was the most central part of her family, offering love and support always.

Irene is survived by her two children, son Richard Cabral Sr. of Dartmouth, MA and daughter Susan Mendonca and husband Louis of Melbourne, FL; five grandchildren, Richard Cabral Jr. and his wife Lori, Joyce Cabral, Christine Cabral, Neil Mendonca and his wife Stephanie, Kevin Cabral and his significant other Sarah; seven great-grandchildren, Joseph Cabral, Jenna Cabral, Krystal Sheppard, Erika Lavoie, Jason Barros, Harrison Mendonca and Kayden Cabral, numerous great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Southcoast Hospice and the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home for their compassionate support and excellent care during these recent months.

Irene’s visiting hours and funeral service will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Perry Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be held from 8:30 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. with a service to take place at 9:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
