New Bedford - Barbara (Tripp) DeCosta ,89, of Marion, passed away Sunday October 3, 2021, at Care One in New Bedford. She was the beloved wife of the late Milton Rebello DeCosta with whom she shared 43 years of marriage.

Barbara was born in New Bedford to the late Joseph Gidley Tripp and Alice Christie (Gaw) Tripp. She spent most of her life as a resident of Marion. Barbara attended Fairhaven High School. She worked for many years at New Bedford Institution For Savings as a teller and retired from the Accounting Department. She loved spending time with her family and absolutely loved animals.

Barbara built and established Stonetree Acres in Marion. She bred and raised Morgan horses and showed them with her granddaughters. She loved dogs and enjoyed spending time walking her black lab, Greta, and took in dogs and cats from the shelter as well.

Barbara had a green thumb and frequently could be found tending to her garden growing organic vegetables. She enjoyed sewing and would make various clothes, quilts and Halloween costumes for her granddaughters. She was feisty yet caring. She was happiest at home cooking and homemaking.

She is survived by her sons, David Milton DeCosta and his wife Beth of Centerville, William Joseph DeCosta of Brockton, Daniel DeCosta and Michael DeCosta of New Bedford and Matthew DeCosta of Delaware; three grandchildren, Amy Jones and her husband Sean of Centerville, Laura Enos of Mattapoisett, and Anne Bousquet of Marion; 5 great grandchildren Megan Jones, Dylan Jones, Caleb Bousquet, Emily Bousquet and Emma Enos; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joseph Gidley Tripp Jr., whom she adored.

A graveside service will be held Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony's Cemetery on North Street, Mattapoisett, MA.
