New Bedford – Maria (Dutra) Goncalves, age 82 of New Bedford, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by family and loved ones. She was the loving wife of the late Manuel Goncalves.

Maria was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal to the late Antonio Goulart Dutra and Ilda Carmina (Lopes) Dutra. She worked for many years as a housekeeper for St. James Church at the time, now known as Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Parish.

She is survived by her children, Henrique Manuel Goncalves and his wife Debbie of North Carolina, Helder Fernando Goncalves and Eulalia Rogers and her companion Brian Taylor, both of New Bedford; grandchildren, Sherrie Rogers, Brittany Rogers, Samantha Goncalves, Laryssa and Helder Goncalves; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Norberto Dutra of California; sisters, Elsa Correia of New Bedford, Elmina Pacheco of Dartmouth and Adelia Ribeiro of Faial, Azores; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her late grandson, Ryan Rogers and her late brother, George Dutra.

Maria’s visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will take place on Monday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
