Bessie R. (Baker) Leonardo

New Bedford – Bessie R. (Baker) Leonardo, age 93, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Gilbert Leonardo, Sr.

Bessie was born in New Bedford, MA to the late William T. Baker and Beatrice F. (Crocker) Baker. She had worked as a stitcher for a local clothing manufacturer for many years.

Bessie is survived by her children, Patty Pereira and her husband Paul, Debra Miller, Michael Leonardo, Steven Leonardo and his wife Christine, Robert Leonardo and Cheryl Sampson and her husband Richard; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Harriett Scherner and Doris Baker.

She was predeceased by her late children, Gilbert F. Leonard, Jr. and Sandra J. Buckles.

Bessie’s visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will take place on Friday morning in the funeral home, beginning at 9:00 A.M. with a service to be held at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.

Per the family’s request, they require masks to be worn, social distance of 6 feet and no physical contact at all times please. Thank you.
