Maria A. (Tavares) Silva

New Bedford – Maria A. (Tavares) Silva, age 97, of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford. She was the beloved wife of the late Agostinho P. Silva.

Maria was born in Ribeira Cha, Sao Miguel, Azores to the late Jose Tavares Pacheco and Elvira da Conceicao (Pereira) Pacheco. She came to this country in 1966, where she had worked as a seamstress for various local clothing manufacturers over the years. Maria loved to travel with her husband and especially loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Fatima Barrett of Marion; her son, Victor Silva and his wife Patricia Griffin-Silva of Arlington, Ma; grandchildren, Matthew Silva and Regina Schwitz and her husband Eric; 2 great-grandchildren, Olivia Schwitz and Griffin Schwitz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 5 siblings.

Maria’s visiting hours and funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Visiting hours will be held from 9:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 11:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
