Jose Eugenio

Plymouth – Jose Eugenio, 89, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. He was the beloved husband of the late Alexandrina (Pereira) Eugenio.

Jose was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal and was the son of the late Manuel Eugenio and Maria Anjelina (Avila) Eugenio. He had been a scallop packer at a local fish and seafood factory over the years. Jose had been the last living Azorean Whaleman. He loved fishing, gardening and his years spent playing soccer for Atlético had been a proud accomplishment.

Jose is survived by his 2 children, son Joe Eugenio and daughter Rita Eugenio and her husband Joshua Wordell; as well as 3 grandchildren, Joshua Wordell, Jeremiah Wordell and Alexandrina Wordell.

He was predeceased by his late siblings, Manuel Cristo DaRosa, Carlos Eugenio and Lydia Maria Matos.

Jose’s visiting hours and funeral service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022. Visiting hours will take place at Perry Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. – 10:30 A.M and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 11:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
