New Bedford - Joseph D. Berry, 92, of New Bedford passed away after a period of declining health, surrounded by family on Thursday, April 14. 2022 at The Oaks Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of the late Harriet A. (McNicholas) Berry.
Joseph was born in Chester, PA and was the son of the late William Berry and Mary (Kelly) Berry. He had worked as a loan manager for AVCO-Citi Finance Co, formerly known as Seaboard Finance Co. In his earlier years, he worked at Hathaway Furniture. Post retirement, he worked as a school crossing guard at Winslow School, had several paper routes for The Standard Times and The Boston Globe and worked for Century 21 Real Estate as a broker.
Joseph enjoyed watching Old Western movies and sports, loved horses and especially loved his family.
He is survived by his children, Joseph Berry of Seattle, WA, Rosemary Berry-Lemieux and her husband Paul of Lakeville, MA, Eileen Kirton, William Berry and Sharon Reed all of New Bedford, MA; grandchildren, Robert Nadeau Jr and his wife Lauren, Daniel Nadeau and his fiancee Rebecca, Rebecca Nadeau and her fiance Rene, David Nadeau and his wife Emily, Henry Berry, Patrick Berry, Melissa Berry, Ava Berry and Alex Berry. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Alexis and her fiance Christian, Riley, Evan, Cameron, Aaren, Cassidy, Brayden, Zachary, Matthew and Finnley.
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Harriet and his son-in-law, Steve Kirton.
Joseph’s visiting hours and memorial service with his cremains will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Perry Funeral Home. Visiting hours will take place from 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. with a service to be held during this time.
