Dartmouth - Mariano Manuel de Medeiros Pimentel, 89, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 31 accompanied by his loving family after a brief illness. He was the widower of Eduarda Maria Borges-Garcia. He was born in Santa Cruz, Lagoa, Sao Miguel, and was the son of the late Jose Pimentel-Brum and Maria Adelina Borges de Medeiros.

He emigrated from Portugal to Canada; first to Niagara Falls, then moving and residing in Quebec, QC. While in Canada he and his future wife (also originally from Santa Cruz) exchanged letters with one another until they made history by being the first two non-Canadians to be married in Old Quebec. Following their marriage, the couple had six children and raised their family in the greater New Bedford/Dartmouth area, where he had lived for 67 years. He worked for many years as a self-employed landscaper and general contractor. He was a founding member of the Portuguese Sports Club in New Bedford.

He was the loving companion of Mrs. Eileen (Morin) Lake. He leaves six children, George (Maria Fatima) Pimentel, Joseph (Melinda Botelho) Pimentel both of Dartmouth, Suzette (Martin) Fraser of Medford, Kathryn Pimentel of New Bedford, and Mariano, JR (Robin) Pimentel and Tina (Mark) Sousa both of Taunton. He has twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Jose (Debra) Pimentel Brum, Manuel (Regina) Pimentel Brum, and Sofia (Iduino) DeAlmeida. He was pre-deceased by his brother Joao Carlos Pimentel Brum. He leaves behind many, godchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southcoast VNA Hospice, to whom the family is indebted for their compassionate care.

Mariano’s visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Perry Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. His funeral will take place Monday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John Cemetery.
