John P. Aylward

New Bedford - John P. Aylward, age 75, of Dartmouth, MA passed away unexpectedly on July 9, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Geraldine I. (Ponte) Aylward, who passed away last year on May 23, 2022.

He was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Agatha Evelyn (McKenna) and James Joseph Aylward. He had worked as a Program Manager for the Naval Warfare Base in Newport, Rhode Island. John was an avid fisherman, running his own private charter business "My Irish Waltz Fishing Charters". He loved muscle cars, camping and enjoyed great food.

John is survived by his grandchildren, Shane Mattos and Erynn Mattos; as well many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Stephanie Lynette Holmen, who passed away much too early in 2013.

John's visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home on Monday, July 17th from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. His funeral will take place on Tuesday, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church on Dartmouth St., Dartmouth MA. Cremation to follow.
