Jose "Zema" Monteiro

New Bedford – Jose “Zema” Monteiro, age 32, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Monteiro was cared for by the love of his life, Eurides “Dity” (Rodrigues) Moreno. He leaves his son; Willy, age 10 and his daughter; Camilla, age 3, his uncle Zezinho Semedo, his aunts Celeste, Arlette and Maria Semedo as well as 7 brothers and sisters in Angola and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Monteiro was a son of Mario and Domingas (Semedo) Monteiro of Angola. He was born in Cape Verde Island and has been living in this area for the past 5 years. Mr. Monteiro was associated with various Dance and Performing Arts groups as a world wide independent traveler.

Mr. Monteiro’s Funeral will be at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., Tuesday at 10 A.M. With a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 11 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday from 6 - 9 P.M.
