Valentina Mateus

New Bedford- Valentina (Carvalho) Mateus, 76 of New Bedford died Friday, November 7th at Blaire House . She was the widow of Hermano Mateus. She is survived by her son Francisco Mateus of New Bedford, two daughters Hermana Sousa of Dartmouth and Maria F. Ricard of Rockland, MA, two sisters Teresa Cabral of Dartmouth and Laudalina Dias of Fall River, Ma, a brother Joseph Carvalho of Dartmouth, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Manuel Botelho and Maria Jose Salvadore.

Mrs. Mateus was born in Mosterios, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, the daughter of Francisco Carvalho and Teresa Botelho (Paulo) Carvalho. She lived in this area for over 33 years. Mrs. Mateus had worked as a floor girl at various local clothing manufacturers until her retirement.

The funeral will be Monday November 10, 2003 from Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Church, County Street. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford, Ma. Calling hours are Sunday November 9th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
