New Bedford- John A. Couto, 80 of South Dartmouth died Friday, November 27th at St Lukes Hospital . He was the Husband of Ezaura (Borges)Couto for 57 Yrs. He is survived by his Widow., A daughter Liane R. Robinson & her husband Arthur W.Jr of South Dartmouth, a son Manuel “Skip” Couto of South. Dartmouth. 2 Grandchildren Arthur W.III & Adam John Robinson. 3 sisters Mary Paiva of N.B. Olivia Meinholt of N.B.& Leontina Lima of Wareham. He was the father of the Late Sharyn E. A. Couto.

Mr. Couto was born in Fall River, the son of the Late Rosa Sylvia and Manuel Couto. He lived in this area for most his life. Mr Couto had worked as a director of the on board So End Council Community Center, he was a secretary/ Treasurer for the Musician Local 214 until it disbanded. Mr Couto spent most of his career as a musician playing Trumpet with such Orchestras as Gene Marshall at the Lincoln Park Ballroom. He also had his own group The Nu-Tones who Played such functions as “Strawberries in the Park” in Acushnet for Several Yrs.In his early Yrs he was leader of the Green Front Band.Mr Couto is Featured in the Spinner Publication of the book & video of “Lincoln Park” you’ll find his int4erview on Both. In Addition to Music his joys were when he went on trips w/ his wife cookouts & quality time he spent with his Family. He was the hub of our Family & will truly be missed.

The funeral Mass will be Monday December 1, 2003 at St. Mary’s Church S. Darmouth @ 10 :00 A.M. Family & friends are invited to meet at Church. . Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford, Ma.
