Dartmouth – It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Albertina (Andrade) Avila, age 94, who departed this life on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth, surrounded by the love and support of her family. Albertina was the beloved wife of Jose Pereira Avila, who stood by her side through the years.
Born on June 27, 1930, in Faial, Azores, Albertina was the cherished daughter of the late Manuel Andrade and Maria Louisa Andrade. In 1960, she made the courageous decision to leave her homeland and move to this country, where she contributed her talents as a stitcher in several local dress factories, embodying the spirit of hard work and dedication.
Albertina's legacy lives on through her loving husband, Jose Avila; her children, Francisco Avila and his wife Christine, Fatima Almeida, and Scott Joseph Avila; as well as her grandchildren, Sandra, Nancy, Jay, Keith, Quintin, Nolan and Camden and seven great-grandchildren, who were privileged to know her warmth and kindness. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, who will carry fond memories of her in their hearts. Albertina will be remembered for her incredible strength, the love she shared, and the indelible mark she left on the lives of those who had the privilege to know her.
Albertina was predeceased by her late siblings, Aldina Bettencourt, Clementina Almeida, Maria Paiva, Filomena Neto, and Virginia Raposo, who have welcomed her with open arms.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours to pay their respects on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Perry Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will take place the following morning, commencing at 9:00 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. She will be laid to rest immediately following the service in St. John’s Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford.
