Alice Louro

New Bedford – Alice (Rafael) Louro, age 87 passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Alden Court Nursing Care surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Abel L. Louro.

Born in Cortiçal, Santarem, Portugal, Alice was the daughter of the late Josue Rafael and Maria Julia Louro. She immigrated to New Bedford in 1969 and worked as a stitcher for many years in New Bedford. She was a great cook and seamstress. What made her happiest was spending time with her family, often in her backyard overseeing her extensive vegetable garden, and spending quality time in her home in Portugal and visiting her family and friends. 

Alice resided at Alden Court Nursing Care for over 8 years and formed many friendships during those years. The family is very grateful to Alden Court for their attentive care for, and dedication to, Alice.

Alice is survived by her 2 children: Manuel J. Louro and his wife, Elizabeth Figueiredo Louro, and Lina Louro-Cunha and her husband, Nuno Cunha; grandchildren: Marissa Louro Henry and her husband, Mark Henry, Nicole Cunha, and Nina Cunha; great-granddaughters, Julia and Sophia Henry; as well as her sister in Portugal, Laurinda Louro Rafael.

Alice’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral from 8:00 A.M. – 11:00A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church South Dartmouth at 11:30A.M. Burial will immediately follow at St. John’s Cemetery in New Bedford.
