Ana I. Tavares, age 63, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 13, 1962, in São Miguel, Azores, Ana was a devoted daughter and cherished member of her family.
Ana was the beloved daughter of Deodato R. Tavares and Ester (Pimenta) Tavares.
Ana spent many years testing wires for Cornell Dubilier. Later in life, she dedicated her time to raising so many of her nieces and nephews. But those who knew Ana knew how much she loved playing cards with her mother, Ester, all night long. She also enjoyed watching her Portuguese soap operas on RTP and Mass on TV every Sunday, which she never missed. Ana will always be remembered for her caring and kindness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
She is survived by her parents, Deodato and Ester Tavares, who mourn the loss of their dear daughter. Ana also leaves behind her siblings: Joao Tavares; Paul Tavares and his companion Maria Pontes; Lucia Almeida and her husband George; Carlos Tavares and his wife Isaura; and Maria Canuel and her husband Peter. Additionally, she is remembered and loved dearly by several nieces and nephews: Jennifer, Derek, Kimberly, Ashley, Colby, Natasha, Felicia, Mckenzie, Ryan, Jacob, Philip, Nolan, Olivia, Jaxon, Logan, Gavin, Camden, Giuliana, Penelope, Mila, Trenton, Genevieve, Lucas, who will carry forward her memory.
Ana’s passing marks the loss of a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt. Her memory endures in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace with god by her side.
A Mass of Catholic Burial for Ana will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. The burial will follow immediately afterward in the Rural Cemetery. In respect for the family and the service, all attendees are kindly requested to meet directly at the church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
