Antonio Madeira, 93, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on August 13, 1932, in Agua de Pau, on the beautiful island of São Miguel, Açores, to the late Serafin Madeira and Amelia (Miquel) Madeira.
Antonio spent his early years in São Miguel before moving to Terceira in search of new opportunities and a bright future for his family. He later immigrated to New Bedford, MA, where he built a life rooted in hard work, tradition, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Antonio was the beloved husband of the late Maria (Raposo) Madeira, his lifelong partner. Together, they raised their son, Emanuel Madeira, who survives him along with his wife, Kelly Madeira. Antonio leaves behind three cherished granddaughters, Candace Madeira and her partner, Nickolas Correia; Erin Nogueira and her husband, Jonathan Nogueira; and Emily Foley, as well as his treasured great-grandchildren: Avien Correia, Caimen Correia, Braysen Correia, Olivia Nogueira, and Liam Nogueira. He is also survived by his sister, Maria de Jesus Almeida, along with several nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever hold dear the memories they shared with him.
A true sports enthusiast, Antonio had a lifelong passion for soccer. He was a proud and loyal supporter of Sporting, and whether he was watching a match, discussing players, or celebrating a victory, the sport brought him great joy and connection throughout his life.
Antonio’s presence was a steady, comforting, and enduring force, one that will be profoundly missed yet always deeply felt. His family finds peace in knowing he is reunited with his beloved Maria and that his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
