Benilde Alegria (Valente) Silva

Benilde Alegria (Valente) Silva, age 84, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 21, 1942, in Monte, Murtosa, Portugal, Benilde was a cherished wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Benilde was the beloved wife of Ernesto Silva, with whom she shared many years of companionship and love. She was the daughter of the late Antonio Maria da Cruz Valente and Carolina da Alegria da Silva, whose memory she honored throughout her life. Known for her diligent work ethic, Benilde was employed as a machine operator at Cornell Dubilier for many years before dedicating her time to raising her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Her dedication and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Ernesto Silva; her children, Paul Silva and his wife Deborah, Elisabeth Silva, and Ernesto Silva Jr.; as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandchild who brought immense joy to her later years. Benilde was predeceased by her 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Benilde’s life was marked by her steadfast love for her family, her strong work ethic, and her generous spirit. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral service will take place on Tuesday morning, April 7, beginning at 9:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will immediately follow at South Dartmouth Cemetery.
