Carlos J. Camara, age 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by the loving presence of his family. Born on August 8, 1941, in São Miguel, Azores, Carlos was the cherished son of the late Virginio Bento Camara and Teodilina (Cabral) Camara. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a respected member of his community.
Carlos shared a lifetime of love and companionship with his devoted wife, Maria B. (DeMedeiros) Camara of New Bedford, to whom he was married for 58 years. Together, they built a family grounded in faith, dedication, and mutual respect.
Throughout his life, Carlos demonstrated unwavering commitment not only to his family but also to his work. He was employed by Boston College, where he worked diligently as a custodian and groundskeeper, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Carlos leaves behind his loving wife, Maria; his daughters Ana I. Santos and her husband Mario, Paula C. Camara, and Kelly M. Camara along with her significant other David Lopes. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Curt, Tanya, Ryan, Tayla, Eric, Kolby, and Ethan. His legacy continues through his three great-grandchildren: Rilyn, Kenzley, and Raidon. He is also survived by his sibling, Lurdes Nobrega; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his late siblings, Gil, Francisco, and Luis Camara.
The loss of Carlos is deeply felt by his family and friends who honor a man whose life was characterized by steadfast dedication, kindness, and a strong work ethic. His memory remains a lasting blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visiting hours and funeral services to honor Carlos will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Perry Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 10:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow at Rural Cemetery.
Perry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements and welcomes all who wish to pay their respects. The facility is thoughtfully equipped with a lighted parking lot and handicap-accessible ramp and entrance to ensure the comfort and convenience of all attendees.
