Carmen Mary Bittner

Carmen Mary Bittner, age 86, of Dartmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 3, 1939, in New Bedford, MA, Carmen was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph J.P. Carreiro and Deolinda (Vasconcellos) Carreiro.

Carmen dedicated her life to serving others in both education and healthcare. She spent many years as a school teacher in Rhode Island, inspiring countless students and instilling a love for learning. Additionally, her nursing career in New Hampshire showcased her compassionate nature and commitment to caring for those in need.

A woman of simple pleasures, Carmen found joy in watching her favorite game shows, particularly Wheel of Fortune. She also had a fondness for scratch tickets, eagerly trying her luck with a smile. Carmen will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Carmen is survived by her stepchildren, Richard Bittner and Lorene H. Bittner; her sister, Mary Russo; as well as several nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly. She is predeceased by her brothers, Leonard Ponte Carreiro and Ronald Ponte Carreiro.

A memorial service to honor Carmen’s life will be arranged at a later date, details of which will be available on the funeral home's website.
