David Craveiro Martins, aged 73, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Massachusetts, he succumbed to his injuries from a fall in November 2025.
Born on February 11, 1953, in Agua de Pau, Sao Miguel, Azores, David was the cherished son of the late Virginio Martins and the late Maria dos Anjos (Craveiro) Martins.
David is survived by Maria de Jesus (Medeiros) Martins, who was his former wife and his beloved forever companion. He is survived by his three children, Michelle Anne (Martins) Medeiros, Jessica (Martins) Mink and her husband Captain Jesse M Mink, USN, and David Lee Martins and his wife Starla (Braccini) Martins. His three grandchildren, Tabitha Medeiros, Adam Medeiros, and Bradley Mink. He is also survived by his beloved siblings; Rufina Raposo, Virginio Martins and his spouse Lucia Martins, Armando Martins and his spouse Estrela Martins, Lucia Parreira and her spouse Alexandre Parreira, and Ana De Matos as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David was also predeceased by his brothers; Jose Martins, Joao Martins, Manuel Martins, and his sister Lurdes de Medeiros, and his niece Maria dos Anjos (Martins) Lapointe.
He worked very hard all of his life. He was employed at Dartmouth Finishing Corp for twenty-five years until the factory shut down. He then worked as a school bus driver. Followed by employment as a truck driver and construction worker with Mirra company on the Boston Big Dig until his retirement. His life journey reflected a strong connection to his roots and community.
David dedicated many years to his favorite hobby, which was Soccer. As a soccer player, he earned many trophies and accolades. Later, he dedicated many years to coaching and refereeing Soccer. He also loved his pets. He loved his New England sport teams and the Miami Dolphins. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.
He will be remembered with respect and affection by his family and community alike. His legacy endures in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life. David’s passing is mourned by all who knew and loved him.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His funeral service will begin on Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place immediately afterward in Rural Cemetery.
