Deolinda (Goulart) Pires

Acushnet – Deolinda (Goulart) Pires, age 93, of Acushnet, MA passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Joao B. Pires, with whom she had shared 54 years of marriage together.

Deolinda was born in Pico, Azores to the late Jose R. Goulart and Maria (Alvernaz) Goulart. She had worked at Cliftex Corp. for over 25 years and had also been Proprietor of Century House in Acushnet from 1975-2017. She had enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, going on camping trips and traveling overseas.

She is survived by her children, Joseph M. Pires and his wife Donna, Helio F. Pires and his wife Carol, Michael J. Pires and his wife Linda and son-in-law, Danieal Medeiros; her grandson’s, John A. Medeiros, Nicholas H. Pires and Andrew J. Pires; her granddaughter’s, Stephanie D. Medeiros, Jennifer M. Hayes and Marissa A. Pires; great-grandchildren, Logan and Landon Medeiros and Makayla, Colin and Charlotte Pires; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Ricardina M. Pires and the late Helia (Pires) Medeiros, grandmother of the late Kevin J. Pires and sister of the late Maria Vargas.

The Pires family would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to her great-niece, Alexandra (Pires) Brum and grandson, John A. Medeiros, for their exceptional daily care which allowed her to remain in her home while battling Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease for the last 5 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks to consider making a donation in Deolinda’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Deolinda’s visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Perry Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Her funeral will take place Saturday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford MA.
