Donald J. Amaro

Donald J. Amaro, age 81, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Brandon Woods Dartmouth. Born on January 26, 1944, in New Bedford, MA, Donald was the beloved son of the late Jose Amaro Ribeiro Jr. and Candida (Paiva) Amaro.

Throughout his life, Donald exemplified a diligent work ethic, dedicating himself tirelessly to his endeavors. He possessed a passion for food, an appreciation for television, and an enduring fascination with cars. Notably, he had certain innate abilities that often went unnoticed but contributed to the unique character he shared with those around him. Donald took great pride in maintaining his Portuguese language, reflecting his deep-rooted cultural heritage.

He is survived by his extended family, which includes many cousins, among them Feliciana Amaro Figueiredo, Ivone Lopes, Teresa Correai, Carlos A. Amaro, and Eugenio Cabral. The bonds of family were important to Donald, and his extended family will remember him fondly.

Donald will be remembered for his warmth, tenacity, and the unique qualities that made him who he was. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth for the compassion and care provided during his final days. They also wish to acknowledge the ongoing support and care from New England Hospice, which was invaluable during this time.

In accordance with Donald’s wishes, he was cremated with a private graveside service.
