Dorothy Camire

New Bedford – Dorothy (Medeiros) Camire, age 88, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in New Bedford, MA and was the beloved daughter of the late Joao Medeiros and Laurinha Laura (de Silva) Medeiros. She had worked as a cook for the Dartmouth Public Schools and later worked for BJ’s Wholesale Company.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Carol Simmons and her significant other John Porto both of North Fort Myers Fl; Tracy Camire of Dartmouth MA and his significant other Deborah Lake of Westport MA; Steven Camire and his wife Laurie Camire of Dartmouth MA; her grandchildren, Amy Caswell and her husband Greg of Acushnet, Matthew Simmons and his wife Molly of Boston, Katelyn Mahon and her husband Thomas of New Jersey, Tara Camire of Dartmouth, Kristina Camire of Wisconsin, Erika Camire of Colorado, Nicholas Camire of Dartmouth and Hailey Camire of Dartmouth MA; as well as great-grandchildren, Charlotte Caswell, Benjamin Caswell, Madelyn Caswell, Charlie Simmons and Owen Mahon and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy’s visiting hours and funeral service will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Perry Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be held from 10:00 A.M. – 12:15 P.M. with a service to take place at 12:15 P.M. Burial will immediately follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks to consider making a donation in Dorothy’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
