Elsie (Marques) Gonsalves, 97, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 27 at Vantage Health, previously the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home, after a long illness.

With her husband, she enjoyed traveling including many trips to Portugal, as well as Brazil, England, and a cross-country road trip with their friends. Elsie was a talented cook who enjoyed preparing meals for her family over the years. She was a lifelong animal lover who cared for many pets during her life.
Elsie is survived by her nephews Stephen Carvalho and Jonathan Carvalho, and several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, cousins, and friends. Along with her husband Gus, she was preceded in death by her sisters Beatrice Carvalho and Silvina Marques, her brothers-in-law, and her nephew David Carvalho.
Her family is thankful to the staff of the Jewish Convalescent Home for their excellent care during her time there, and with special thanks to Community Nurse Home Care.
A service and Burial of Elsie's ashes are to be announced at a later date.
