Ernest M. Santos, age 81, of Acushnet, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mariza (Caban) Santos.

Born on August 29, 1944, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Ernest was the cherished son of the late Louis Santos and Joaquina (Andrade) Santos. Throughout his life, Ernest exemplified dedication and service, first as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps for 4 years and followed by 2 years in the United States Army, where he demonstrated unwavering commitment to his country. Following his military service, he devoted his career to the safety and rehabilitation of others, working as a correctional officer at Bridgewater State Prison.

Ernest will be remembered with great respect and affection for his service, his strength, and his unwavering love for his family. His family was a treasured part of his life, and their presence brought him great joy and comfort. His memory will endure in the hearts of all who knew him and his legacy is carried on by those who loved him dearly.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mariza Santos; his daughter, Tecia Xifaras; and his son, Ernest Santos; stepdaughters Natasha and Jessica, grandchildren, Maegan, Chelsey, Ben, Rhys, Amar’e, Jasse, Sabi and Luca; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary L. Silveira and Cynthia Santos-Tomar; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. 

He was the brother of the late Louis and Dennis Santos.

Ernest’s visiting hours and service will be private.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
