Evangelina (Macedo) Lourenco, a beloved matriarch and longtime resident of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the venerable age of 103. She spent her final days at Vantage at New Bedford Health & Rehab, embraced by the tender care and heartfelt love of her family.
Born on October 5, 1922, in Pico, Azores, Evangelina was the cherished daughter of the late Joao Soares de Macedo and Carolina (Madruga) Macedo. Throughout her life, she exemplified dedication and skill, having worked many years as a seamstress for a local clothing manufacturer, contributing her talents with quiet grace and diligence.
Evangelina was the devoted wife of the late Antonio Lourenco, with whom she shared many years of companionship and love. Her enduring legacy lives on through her family, whom she loved deeply.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter-in-law, Eva Almeida, and her husband Adelino; her grandson Wilson Lourenco, along with his wife Carla; and her great-grandchildren Alyson Lourenco, Kailey Lourenco, and Jenna Lourenco, who brought joy and pride to her later years. Additionally, Evangelina’s extended family includes nieces and nephews residing in Massachusetts, California, Florida, Canada, and the Azores, all of whom cherished her affectionate spirit.
Evangelina was also preceded in death by her son, Manuel Antonio Lourenco, whose memory she held dear.
Evangelina’s life was one marked by quiet strength, familial devotion, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved. She will be remembered with profound respect and heartfelt affection by all who knew her.
The family will honor Evangelina’s life with visiting hours and funeral services on Friday, May 22, 2026. The visitation will be held at Perry Funeral Home from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 AM. Her final resting place will immediately follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
