Fernanda Sousa Silva

New Bedford – Fernanda Sousa Silva, age 95, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her loving family by her side. 

Born in Horta, Faial, Azores, she was the beloved daughter of the late Maria Isabel Sousa. She immigrated to this country 57 years and had since been a resident of New Bedford. She had been a seamstress for several garment factories, as well as an assembler for Cornell Dubilier.

Fernanda was devoted to her family and had been a good friend to many, whom she enjoyed spending time with. She also enjoyed watching EWTN and prayed all of the rosaries and masses throughout the day for her family and friends. She had been a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for over 50 years. A woman of faith, she lived a life of service to others with a generous heart.

Fernanda is survived by her nieces, Maria Fatima Soares and Maria Fernanda Brasidio; her cousins, Celina Fialho, Fernando Garcia, Carlos Garcia, Connie Garcia, Teresa Garcia of New Bedford; Auzenda Garcia of Florida; Maria BelmiraSousa, IsabelSousa, Luis Sousa , & Connie Sousa of Canada.

She was predeceased by her late mother, Maria Isabel Sousa and her late siblings, Leonel of Faial, Eduino of Canada and maria Isabel Garcia and Auzenda Alberto of New Bedford.

Fernanda’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Visiting hours will be held from 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
