New Bedford – Fernando Carvalho, age 85, of New Bedford passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Idalina (Mano) Carvalho.

 

Fernando was born in Coimbra, Portugal to the late Adriano Rodrigues Carvalho and Maria (Pereira) Carvalho. He immigrated to Mozambique, South Africa, then finally the United States in 1977, where he had worked as a welder in Quincy for a short time and then as a fisherman until his retirement.

 

Upon his retirement, he had spent time in both Portugal and the United States and moved back here permanently in 2010 due to his wife’s health issues. He had been an avid Benfica fan but above all, he loved his family very much.

 

Fernando is survived by his loving wife, Idalina Carvalho; his daughters, Cristina (Carvalho) Pereira and her husband Jose Pereira and Sandra (Carvalho) Pires and her husband Nuno Pires; grandchildren, Alexandre DeAraujo, Andre Pres and Sabrina Pires; sister, Maria Jorge Carvalho of Portugal; as well as several nieces.

 

Fernando’s Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. All attendees are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Cremation will follow.

 

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford MA.
