Gerald Joseph Perry

October 6, 1943 — August 23, 2025

New Bedford

Gerald Joseph Perry, affectionately known as "Jerry," passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years old and faced his final days with the same courage and grace that defined his life.

Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Manuel Perry and Lillian Perry (Sylvia). He grew up in a close-knit family and developed a strong work ethic early on, which led him to attend vocational school. Jerry's sense of duty beckoned him to serve his country, and he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served three years as a Heavy Equipment Operator. As a Vietnam veteran, Jerry earned several honors, including the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. His service to his country remained a source of pride throughout his life.

Following his military service, Jerry pursued a fulfilling career as a manager at Stop and Shop in New Bedford, where he was well-respected among his colleagues and customers alike. Those who knew Jerry often referred to him as the best storyteller—a man who could light up a room with his humor and charm. He had a unique ability to blend laughter with caring; whether he was sharing a joke or playing a harmless prank, his warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Perry, and their three children, Jeffrey Perry, Jason Perry, and Crystal Forand. Also survived by his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jerry also leaves behind his brothers, Robert Perry and Thomas Perry, and his sister, Lynn Perry. He was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Wagner, whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

In this time of mourning, Jerry's presence will be greatly missed, not only by his immediate family but also by his companion, Sharon, along with her two daughters. Jerry was known for reaching out to friends and family to lend a helping hand or simply to check in, embodying the essence of a caring community member.

As friends and family prepare to say their goodbyes, a graveside ceremony will be held at the Veterans National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date, allowing loved ones to honor his memory and service.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to the American Legion Charities 700 North Pennsylvania Indianapolis, Indiana 46206

The care of these arrangements has been entrusted to the Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
