Gil C. Cardoso

Gil C. Cardoso, age 79, a longtime resident of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, a testament to the strong bonds he nurtured throughout his life.

Born on January 24, 1947, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Gil was the cherished son of the late Ernesto M. Cardoso and Lurdes L. (Cosme) Cardoso. His roots on the beautiful island of Sao Miguel remained an integral part of his identity, even as he built a life far from his place of birth. Throughout his career, Gil worked as a dedicated machine operator for the Acushnet Company, where his commitment and skill were deeply valued.

Beyond his professional life, Gil was a man of many interests and talents. Possessing a remarkable aptitude for technology, he delighted in building computers for his own enjoyment, showcasing a curiosity and passion for innovation that set him apart. Nature held a special place in his heart as well; he loved the outdoors, particularly spending time at the beach, where he found peace and solace. Gil will be remembered for his quiet strength, his dedication to family, and his zest for life’s simpler pleasures. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Gil is survived by his sister, Mary G. Cardoza of Dartmouth, and his sister, Natalia Camacho of Venezuela. He is also remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and ingenuity.

Visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Friends and family are invited to the Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will then take place at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will immediately follow at Rural Cemetery.
