Gilberto DeMedeiros

Gilberto DeMedeiros, age 81, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, embraced by the love and care of his family. He was the beloved husband of Maria Berto (Tavares) DeMedeiros, who faithfully stood by his side through the many chapters of their shared life.

Born on January 16, 1945, in Lagoa, Sao Miguel, Azores Gilberto was the loving son of the late Joao Angelo DeMedeiros and Maria da Conceicao (Cabral) Angelo, whose memory he honored throughout his life.

Gilberto took great pride in his family, especially in his role as a father and grandfather. He lived a life marked by dedication, love, and devotion to those closest to him.

Throughout his career, Gilberto was committed to his work at Frionor, where he contributed many years of dedicated service. His commitment to his craft and to his community reflected the values he held deeply. Gilberto’s legacy is one of steadfast love, enduring faith, and deep familial bonds.

He is tenderly remembered by his wife, Maria DeMedeiros; his daughter, Maria R. Linhares, and her husband Antonio Linhares, who were a source of immense joy in his life. His spirit lives on in his cherished grandchildren, Ayssa Linhares and Bethany Linhares, who brought light into his later years.

He leaves behind cherished relatives including his sisters-in-law, Maria Isidoro and Maria Vieira; his brothers-in-law, Joao Vieira, Luis Tavares, and Jose R. Tavares; along with several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. He was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, remembered fondly for his kind nature and unwavering commitment to those he loved.

Family, friends, and community members will have the opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate Gilberto’s life during his visitation on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at Perry Funeral Home and following the visitation, a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Cremation will respectfully follow the service.
