Helen (Furtado) Richard

Helen (Furtado) Richard, age 81, passed away on August 22, 2026 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul E. Richard.

Born on January 21, 1945, Helen was the cherished daughter of the late Manuel Furtado and Mary (Morris) Furtado. She had been a New Bedford resident her entire life and had worked for Alden Corrugated for many years & the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center until her retirement.

She enjoyed time spent at local beaches, reading, knitting & bird watching especially her treasured Humming Birds. Family meant the world to Helen, as well as sipping tea with her “Tea Sisters” always brought her Joy.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Lisa M. Medeiros & (spouse) Mark; her granddaughters, Tara E. Fonseca & (spouse) Jeffrey and Paige E. Trigueiro & (spouse) Timothy; as well as her great-grandson, Benjamin K. Valente.

She was also predeceased by her son, David M. Richard and her brothers, Mario & James Furtado.
