Herminia Justo Gomes, 84, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 3, 2025. She was the wife of the late Albino S. Gomes and the daughter of the late Anibal Justo and Ana Vaz Teixeira.
Herminia was born in Montalegre, Portugal, and spent many years living in Valdegas before immigrating to the United States with her husband and young family. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and unconditional love. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was caring for those she loved.
She is survived by her children: Joao Anibal Gomes and his wife Ana-Maria of Dartmouth, Jose Carlos Gomes of Plymouth, Jose Joaquim Gomes and his wife Rebecca of Acushnet, and Ana Teresa Curral and her husband Joao of Acushnet; her grandchildren Jennie Moniz and husband Franklin, Nelson Curral and his wife Nicole, Courtney Gomes, Alyssa Martin and her husband Nathan, Nickko Gomes and his wife Kristen, Jesse Gomes and his wife Dedra, and Zachary Gomes and his fiancé Koyrn; and her great-grandchildren, Hayden Gomes, Landyn Gomes, Benjamin Gomes, Stella Martin, Parker Gomes, Grayson Gomes, Alden Moniz, Lilah Martin, August Gomes, and Lorenzo Curral. Herminia is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews in the United States and Portugal.
Herminia’s love for her family was the heart of her life. She was known for her selfless spirit and boundless generosity. She helped raise not only her children but also her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nurturing each generation with warmth, wisdom, and grace.
Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, crocheting beautiful keepsakes, and sharing meals and stories with loved ones. Her home was always open, her hands always busy, and her heart always full.
A woman of deep faith, Herminia was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Herminia’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will take place on Wednesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:45 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church at 11:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
