Irene P. Mello passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on January 17th, 2026. Irene was born July 4th, 1935, in New Bedford, MA. Irene was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Arruda. She was also the sister of the late Beatrice Arruda, Inez Goulart, and Joseph Arruda.
Irene was the loving wife of the late Adriano Mello who passed away on March 12th, 2025. They were married for 66 years and together created a beautiful life and family. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Connor, her son Andy Mello and who she loved as her own daughter Liz Mello, her grandchildren Alyssa Connor, Daniel Mello and Liam Connor. Irene is also survived by her loving sister-in-law Louise Costa and bother-in-law Tony Melo, along with many nieces and nephews.
Irene was a stitcher in various clothing factories before becoming a full-time grandmother. She devoted most of her time to caring for her family. You could usually find Irene in the kitchen cooking something delicious to feed her family and friends. Irene always made sure that her loved ones were well taken care of, doting on her grandchildren any chance she got. She was a constant source of comfort, warmth, and unconditional love. Her spirit was such that to know her was to love her!
Irene and Andrian loved to travel; they explored the country in their motorhome and enjoyed camping alongside their friends who became family. In Irene’s later years she and Adrian spent there winters Camping at Rainbow Resort in Frost Proof, Florida. They made friends everywhere they went. Wherever they parked, it quickly became a haven of laughter, warmth, and lasting memories!
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South Coast Hospice, who provided Irene the best end of life care.
Irene’s services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Perry’s Funeral Home, 8:30 am to 9:30 A.M. followed by a Church service beginning at 10 A.M. at Mt Carmel Church. Private burial at a later date
