Irene de Jesus Serra

Irene S. (de Jesus) Serra, age 84, of New Bedford, MA passed away on October 31, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the cherished wife of Jose Manuel Serra.

She was born on February 18, 1942 in Ferreira do Zêzere, Portugal and was the beloved daughter of the late Jose de Sousa Cotrim and Joaquina de Jesus. She had been a cook for Cafe Europa and later at Beira Mar Bakery.

Irene is survived by her husband, Jose Manuel Serra; daughter, Ana Paula Serra and Fiancé Luis Pedro Goncalves; grandsons, Nathan Vidal and Wife Nicole Vidal and Matthew Vidal and Wife Katelyn Vidal, as well as great- granddaughters, Emma Vidal and Elianna Vidal.

Irene’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Visiting hours will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts, which offers convenient facilities, including a lighted parking lot and wheelchair accessibility for attendees.
