James A. Alfonso, age 78, of New Bedford passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026 in his daughter’s arms.
Born in Acushnet, James was the son of the late John and Blanche (Tessier) Alfonso and the husband of his late wife Linda (Silva) Alfonso.
He worked a short time as a police officer and then went on to work as a security guard at Polaroid and the Marriot Hotel in Boston.
Most importantly, James was devoted to Jesus and was saved in 1981. He graduated from Zion Bible college in 1988. He then went on to become a Reverend and preached and spread the gospel any chance that he could. He was involved in street reach and prison ministries, where he shared his testimony of life on the streets before he met Jesus.
He studied the bible daily and loved to write and highlight scriptures, prayers and sermons. He wrote until the very day that he passed. The last scripture that he wrote was, Hebrews 4:14. “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.” He left a legacy to always hold on to your faith no matter what you are facing.
James is survived by his daughter Denise MacEachern and her husband Jordon MacEachern of Dartmouth. He was a proud grandfather to his grandson Andrew Burdick of Dartmouth; as well several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of his loving and devoted late sister Sylvia A. Owens and her husband Gilbert Owens and was the brother of the late David Alfonso.
Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
