James Henry Jenkins

James Jenkins, age 90, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023 at home with his loving family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of Martha (Laplante) Jenkins to whom he was married for 63 years. 

James was born in New Bedford, MA and was the son of the late Henry Jenkins and Eva (Vermette) Jenkins.  He served in the U.S. Army and later went on to work as a foreman at the New Bedford Gas Company for 25 years before retiring in 1990.  He loved working in his yard, woodworking and spending time with his family.  He was an avid Boston Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots fan. 

He is survived by his loving wife along with his son, James and his wife, Christine, of Acushnet, his daughter, Lynne Christy, of New Bedford, his Grandchildren, Nicholas Jenkins and his wife Jenna, of Fairhaven, Courtney Jenkins and her fiancé, Taylor Sheppard, of New Bedford, and Kristyn Albergaria and her husband, Matthew, of Swansea.  He also leaves a Great-granddaughter, Tatum Jenkins, of Fairhaven.  He is predeceased by his son-in-law, John Christy.
