New Bedford – John M. Costa, age 84, of New Bedford passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Maria E. (Souza) Costa.

John was born in Lagoa, St. Michael, Azores to the late Antonio Costa and Isabel (Moraes) Costa.  He had been a machine operator for American Flag Company for many years. He had been a big fan of Sporting and Portuguese Soccer and also loved watching television. John had been an usher at Mt. Carmel Church, a Mordomo of Holy Ghost Society and had been a past President of Holy Name.

John is survived by his loving wife, Maria Costa; his son, Al Costa and his wife Patricia; grandchildren, Peyton O. Costa and Evan M. LePage; sister, Deolinda Dobem; his godchildren, Jorge Melo, Diane Veiga, Erica Almeida and Lisa Cabral; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Antonio D. Da Costa.

John's visting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. His funeral will take place on Saturday morning, beginning at Perry Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Cremation to follow.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford MA.
