Jose C. Araujo

Jose C. Araujo, age 85, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 03, 1940, in Sao Miguel, Azores, to the late Antonio Araujo and Ermelinda Araujo (Tavares).

Jose was a man of many passions and talents. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and caring for his beloved dogs, and he found great joy in tending to his garden, especially growing fruits and appreciating the beauty of nature. A true businessman and skilled real estate agent, Jose was known for his strong leadership, determination, and resourcefulness. Often described as a “jack of all trades,” he possessed an exceptional ability to work with his hands and solve any challenge that came his way. Above all, he deeply loved his family and took immense pride in the life they built together. Jose also served in the Portuguese Army and served in the Angola War.

Jose is survived by his beloved daughter, Stacey L. Malatino and her husband Thomas J. Malatino; daughter in law, Victoriana Araujo; granddaughters, Kristen and Katelyn Araujo, Valerie and Ava Malatino; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Michael, and Sonney Araujo, Jayden Rivera, Gianna and Nolan Camara; as well as his siblings, Maria Luiza Araujo, Antonio Araujo, Ilda Furtado and Norberto Araujo.

Jose was predeceased by his mother and father, Ermelinda Araujo (Tavares) and Antonio B. Araujo; his wife Margaret Araujo; as well as his son, Steven N. Araujo.

Jose’s visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. His funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. Followed by a mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.

The family would also like to invite everyone to join them at Merril’s On The Waterfront, 36 Homer’s Wharf New Bedford, MA 02740 for lunch following the service on Saturday November 8, 2025.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, located at 111 Dartmouth St, New Bedford, MA, which offers an ample lighted parking lot and is equipped with a handicap-accessible ramp and entrance for all who wish to pay their respects.
